The Breckinridge County Harm Reduction (BCHRP) has a mission to increase substance abuse prevention and awareness, decrease substance use, and increase the rate of recovery by using evidence based practices and collaborating with our partners. Stop the Stigma, Break the Cycle.

The vision of BCHRP is for every household to make substance abuse a common discussion, for businesses to help promote those in recovery, for families to know how to stop enabling those in active addiction, for school to make addiction and recovery educational topics, to decrease the amount of substance abuse charges entering our judicial system, to assist those who are incarcerated to find a new way of life, and for our community to embrace and work together to promoted mental health awareness and treatment.

The Breckinridge County Harm Reduction Program is proud to now offer FREE Naloxone/Narcan trainings for anyone! We would be happy to train you as an individual, in a group, or as a workplace training!

Beginning December 2024, the BCHRP will be offering a needle pick up service that will cover all of Breckinridge County. If you find a needle, call us to come retrieve it!

Starting in 2025, there will be a monthly Harm Reduction supplies distribution at the Hardinsburg Branch Public Library. This will be from 6-8 pm cst. on the 1st Tuesday of every month. 

Breckinridge County's First Harm Reduction Station

Meet Barney!

Barney is the harm reduction station located inside the front doors of the health department! You do not have to talk to anyone, just come in and get what you need!

Inside you will find:

  • Fentanyl Test Strips
  • Xylazine Test Strips
  • Hygiene Kits
  • Wound Care Kits
  • Condoms
  • Breckinridge County Resource Guide (including treatment resources)
